"I just wanted to take a minute and thank you for your excellent teambuilding seminar. Our employees were very excited and motivated upon completion of the seminar. You are always very professional, optimistic, and easy to communicate with. I hope I have an opportunity to work with you again in the future."

R.B., Operations Manager
The Donaldson Clinic

“Your presentation at Goodfellow was very well received.  In looking over the evaluation forms, I found that 85% of respondents rated the speaker EXPERT, 100% of respondents rated “Speaker’s efforts to   inspire to action” as VERY GOOD or EXCELLENT, and well over 70% rated the speaker’s presentation as OUTSTANDING.  Probably the most impressive fact from the evaluations was that EVERYONE listed a way they planned to use learning gained from your presentation.  I don’t recall ever seeing evaluations where everyone could think of a way to use the information presented and actually took the time to write it on an evaluation sheet.”

M.M., Transition Assistance Manager
Goodfellow AFB

"Your Attitude is Showing"™ People Smart Workshop

Improve Employee Motivation and Increase Team Performance

What effect do unmotivated employees have on workplace relationships and team performance? Unmotivated or disengaged employees tend to drag down other employees and customers, creating a high level of relationship tension within their sphere of influence. What is it costing you in terms of frustration and anxiety to constantly be in the position of “relationship refereeing”?

The great majority of employees are very enthusiastic when they start a new job. But, according to surveys conducted in 52 Fortune 1000 companies, 85% of new employees' morale sharply declines after their first six months—and it continues to deteriorate for years afterward. In a recent Business Week article, it was reported that disengaged employees are doing something worse than quitting—they are staying in their job. Instead of leaving the organization and being more productive for their next employer, in these down economic times disengaged employees and their negative mind sets are staying put!

Many times a manager’s own behavior and style contributes to the problem. Most managers simply don't know enough about the people they lead to maximize their talent potential. When a manager learns to communicate with others according to the individual’s behavior and motivational style, the team member feels empowered to do their best.

What if you could discover each team member’s underlying attitude or passion—what motivates them to action? When you learn where the other person is coming from, you begin to see their behavior from a different viewpoint. Awareness of “why” a person does what they do opens up a whole new level of understanding and communicating. Once you learn to see the world from their perspective, you can dramatically improve communication.

People Smart Tool’s workshop "Your Attitude is Showing"™ is designed for managers, team leaders, and supervisors who want to become a more successful leader. Effective communication skills and an awareness of the differences in the way people communicate are essential to thriving relationships in the workplace. The result is lower employee turnover, increased productivity, and improved morale.

This workshop focuses on helping you clearly see how you view the world and understand how to look at the world through someone else’s eyes. This understanding will allow you to discover how to improve communication based on the theory of values and attitudes. Discover a person’s underlying attitudes and you will better understand the motivators behind his or her observable behaviors.

What are Values and Attitudes?

In 1928, Eduard Spranger wrote a book entitled “Types of Men.” He identified six major attitudes or world-views. These attitudes are a type of window through which we view the world and seek fulfillment in our lives. They are described as the “why” of our actions because they drive us to act in a certain way.

People Smart Tools uses assessments provided by Target Training International® (TTI). TTI’s Personal Interests, Attitudes and Values™ (PIAV) assessment describes six attitudes that closely apply to the business and career environment.

The six attitudes defined in TTI’s PIAV assessment are:

  • The Theoretical Attitude is driven by a passion for discovering TRUTH and KNOWLEDGE. The primary motivator behind this attitude is knowledge for the sake of knowing, continuing education and learning. People who are motivated by this attitude take a “cognitive” approach in meeting challenges—identifying, analyzing and clarifying problems and options.
  • The Utilitarian Attitude is driven by a passion for RETURN ON INVESTMENT of time, talent and resources. This attitude gives focus to the practical affairs of life. Efficient use of time and money will be of great importance to those with this primary attitude.
  • The Aesthetic Attitude is driven by a passion for FORM, HARMONY, BEAUTY and BALANCE. People with this primary attitude look for balance between their internal and external worlds. They like unrestricted creative expression and continuous self-improvement.
  • The Social Attitude is driven by a passion to ELIMIMATE HATE and CONFLICT. Those with this primary attitude are motivated by their love of people. They seek to promote and contribute to others’ well-being through giving of their focus, time, talent and resources.
  • The Traditional Attitude is driven by a passion for THE HIGHEST VALUE IN LIFE. Principles are highly important to people with this primary attitude. According to them, rules and regulations should be adhered to. They value unity of beliefs, living orderly, and activities for the betterment of mankind.
  • The Individualistic Attitude is driven by a passion for POWER. People with this primary attitude are driven by an inherent desire to lead and control the destiny of self and others. They strive to advance their position to attain the highest power. Power and control is demonstrated through one of the other five values (such as Utilitarian—power through accumulation of wealth).

Which attitudes drive you? Which attitudes drive your employees? Which attitudes are rewarded and supported by your organization’s own culture? When you know, you will be in a better position to more effectively manage workplace performance.

Why Learn About Attitudes & Values?

Building a positive attitude toward yourself and others starts with awareness of your own attitudes and how they impel you into action. People often lack the words to articulate why they do what they do or why they feel the way they feel.

Attitudes will open an individual’s eyes to a new understanding of themselves and the people around them. It is important to understand others’ communication style and appreciate the differences everyone brings to a team environment. When employees learn where other employees are coming from, they begin to see each others’ behavior from a different viewpoint and less relationship tension occurs.

The knowledge you will glean from the "Your Attitude is Showing"™ workshop will help you experience a level of communication beyond what you ever thought possible. When you learn to communicate with others according to their attitude, you will powerfully motivate them to action.

Immediate Results and Continuous Improvement

Employers begin to see positive changes immediately after the training process. People will realize that differences are good and can be used effectively to make an organization more successful. Attendees do not stop learning once the workshop is completed. Their Personal Interests, Attitudes and Values™ (PIAV) Report and in-depth workbook will allow them to continually learn about their driving passion to action and in turn improve their communication skills both personally and professionally. The benefits of this training process are endless.
